Is Men's Skincare Considered Feminine?
Short answer… Absolutely NOT!
Hey Lads, is it gay to take care of your skin?
Why are men so afraid of skincare products?
Seem like legitimate questions don’t they?
It’s about time more men started taking skincare seriously. Time for some real talk.
Typically, a lot of men work outside in the harsh environmental conditions. This alone makes males prime candidates for a proper skincare routine to fight the effects of ageing and specific skin conditions such as dry & sun damaged skin. But let me ask you this; if you’re a male and you’re heading outside in the sun, whether it be for work or play, would you apply sunscreen to prevent getting sun burnt? Of course you would! So what exactly are you doing by applying sun screen…? That’s right; you’re practicing good skin care behaviour. You’re taking care of your skin.
Taking care of your skin isn’t just a luxury or something you practice on a Sunday because social media says so. It is a necessity to prevent harsh skin conditions like simple dryness to other common conditions such as rosacea and eczema and in extreme cases, even cancer.
Having a good facial skincare routine is no different. And it’s something all genders need to consider. Being a male myself who genuinely cares about health and well-being, I certainly don’t feel feminine for taking care of my skin. I (nearly) always practice smart, healthy food choices and spend many hours in the gym each week. Clearly I care about a healthy lifestyle so why should it stop there? I want to look and feel good… and a good skincare routine plays a vital role in achieving this goal.
I hate the fact that there is a stigma around males not using skincare simply because they’re concerned there ‘mates’ will call them gay (for lack of a better word). It’s stupid, but it’s true. As males, we should empower one another to take better care of ourselves, inside and out. Support your friends when they opt for an apple over a pie or water over some fizzy soft drink. I am glad to say however, there has definitely been a shift in recent history showing more and more males from all different backgrounds are now opting for proper skincare routines.
At the end of the day, it’s much better to have youthful, glowing skin with reduced sagging, wrinkles and spots simply by applying some products to your face and neck daily. I for one would prefer to look 30 when I’m 50, rather than look 50 when I’m 30. And I’m willing to bet that 99.9% of the population is with me there.
The fact you’re reading this blog already shows that you’re interested in men’s skincare. So go ahead and grab yourself some products and start taking better care of your skin. You’re going to be wearing it for ever and the best part is, it’s never too late to start.
