How often should you wash your towel???

Theoretically, we are always freshly cleaned when we get out the shower right… So we only ever use our towels when we are clean. We could easily assume that because we are clean when we dry off with a towel, the towel will stay pretty clean even after a few uses. Ipso facto, towels never need to be washed!

WRONG!

Now let’s be honest, no one actually believes that logic, but how often we wash our towels can actually have quite a dramatic effect on our skin. Towels can host a variety of microorganisms that you definitely don’t want in your cleaning routine. We dry ourselves off and the water is transferred from our bodies to our towels. Towels remain damp for hours (longer in colder climates), which is the perfect breeding ground for unwanted germs. That’s why it is highly recommended that towels should be washed every three uses. How often do you wash your towel? Leave a comment below.

Fun fact: We have 19 million skin cells and 650 sweat glands in every inch of our body. Dead cells make up the top 20 layers of our skin. Some of these cells scrub off in the shower, but many of them will end up on your towel after each and every use.

If you’re a bit on the slack side and don’t wash your towel frequently, you are susceptible to viruses, fungi and bacteria. This can result in irritated skin and the spread of infection.

There are so many factors that affect the quality of our skin and its overall health and one of the most common overlooked causes of skin conditions is the unsuspected devilish towel! You can have the best skincare products (Skóra, of course) and routine in the world, but if you still aren’t nailing those results you desire, it’s time to start considering other causes. So, if you haven’t already… Go and chuck that forever damp towel in the wash asap.

Until next time, stay glowy Skóra fam. xoxo
